House of Townsend: The Story Behind the Brand
For us, it’s more than being just a law firm. House of Townsend is about legacy - helping you plan for yours, and the impactful one that we can leave behind, too. In order for you to best understand why legacy matters so much to us, it’s only fitting that we tell you about the legacy of our own.
Our owner, Attorney Veronica Townsend, has deep roots in the Southern Delaware coastal area, with gratitude to be a local, native, born and raised Sussex Countian. The Townsend family (her father’s side) has a legacy for owning a large percentage of the land in the early years of Sussex County, due to their origins in the feed and poultry supply business and farming. In the 1930s, they were raising over a million chickens a year. Some of the original Sussex County Townsends in her family were influential in the political space, serving in roles such as Speaker of the House for the State of Delaware, a member of the Delaware State Legislature, Board of Trustees for Sussex County, and more. Her great grandparents, the Holts, owned a large farm on what is now Holt’s Landing State Park in Dagsboro. Her mother’s parents immigrated to Delaware from Hungary (her engineer grandfather spent a career with the Indian River Power Plant) and her mother was first generation American. Between the storied Delaware family roots, combined with the family history of coming to America to fight for a better life for their family to come, Veronica knows just how the past can shape the future, how family shapes us, and ultimately, how planning for our families can make all the difference for generations to come.
Veronica’ mother, a nurse, and her commercial fisherman father, are who she attributes with knowing the value of hard work and sacrifice to make for the sake of your family. But, they also taught her about living by example to give back to others, lend a helping hand, and doing so in your local community - which is a large reason why she knew a career as an attorney where she could serve and help clients, and give back whenever she could, was destined to be. During his commercial fishing career in both Delaware in Maryland, Veronica’s father primarily caught black seabass and lobster, being just one of the few brave souls willing to journey thirty to forty miles off shore to catch them for a living. And as expected, with family being at the core of what the Townsends are, his brother and only sibling (Veronica’s uncle), was and still is another Delaware commercial seabass and lobster fisherman, and their fishing business ran together. Integral to the Townsend family story were the years of starting and running a local, family owned and operated seafood carryout concession trailer, so that Veronica’s father could teach his kids first-hand how to work hard, run a business, and that grit and determination are necessary to achieve anything you want.
As a fashion student prior to her legal education, and lover of the fashion industry and clothing as a means of self-expression, Veronica has always admired major fashion “houses” - such as House of Gucci, House of Prada, and House of Louis Vuitton. These “houses” showcase the specializing of the design and sale of high-fashion clothing and accessories with world-renowned class and prestige. The “House” in our brand is a way to encompass the same type of high prestige, high value, and high quality as these brands in the fashion industry with family legacy and impact that has been left behind long after the original named designers have passed. And of course, it’s a perfect fit as we help families purchase their house in the true meaning of the word, too - making their investment “house” the legacy for their name and loved ones.
At the House of Townsend, we strive to serve families with their estate plans, as well as help their loved ones navigate what happens when they are gone. With us, we help you build your house, and build your legacy, with legal counseling relative to forming business entity formation for Delaware entrepreneurs, ownership and acquisition of real estate assets, and having peace of mind in place for both you and your families with the creation of your Wills, Trusts, and Powers of Attorneys.
House of Townsend is centered around and focused on family, and we strive for all of our clients to feel as at ease as if they were with their own families at home when they are working with us. Not to mention, Veronica and her only sibling, her brother, Ches, both work in-house, and our small, boutique law team are incredibly close-knit. The logo is a family crest for these very reasons - being an outward reflection of our message and our story. This family crest perfectly encapsulates the history in the area where Veronica practices law, how and why she practices, and the legacy she is striving to build through our firm. It is intentionally distinct, because House of Townsend, its team members, and its clients are authentic. The firm does not try to look like every other law practice—because it isn’t. Our brand is authentic to who Veronica is, and who our team members are, as it’s important to us to have a brand that does authentically represent who we are. Doing so allows us to house a place for all clients to feel authentically themselves, too.
In our family crest, the “T” reflects Veronica’s name and the foundation of legal knowledge at the core of the firm, echoing the balance and unity symbolized by the scales of justice. More importantly, it represents honoring family and legacy, preserving what was built before us, and protecting what will be passed on next, which serves as a central focus as Veronica serves our clients. With family at the core, it means the transaction alone is not what is integral to us, but the relationship.
The lobster speaks to her roots. Raised in her hardworking, blue-collar family, with a commercial fisherman father, Veronica learned early the values of discipline, resilience, community, and loyalty. Those values define her work ethic and shape the way she advocates for those she represents.
The star symbolizes navigation—knowing where you are going, understanding where you came from, and moving forward with purpose. It represents alignment across values, team, mission, and clients, all moving together with clarity and intention. Navigation is a coastal term and element here at the beach, but we know it well with Veronica’s family legacy with her father’s career in commercial fishing. Navigation is about the combination and teamwork of the person driving the boat, and the person guiding them to do so safely and successfully, and that is what we seek to accomplish. The goal is to take the legalese, confusion, and daunting fear out of the process of working with an attorney and law firm.
And although last, certainly not least to us, is the color pink - bold, confident, unapologetically real. It reflects the authenticity, warmth, and spark that led Veronica to the law in the first place as a young girl being completely captivated by Elle Woods in Legally Blonde, and continues to guide how she practices it today.
Here, we guide you by navigating law for your life and legacy. We desire to make all clients feel comfortable, listened to, taken care of, and ultimately, empowered. Navigation to us depicts the guidance and empowerment we strive to provide our clients - as it’s not just about rendering legal advice, but navigating towards achieving the client’s goals and mission, and doing so in a way that gives those we love the tools to make their own informed decisions for their legacies to come.
Welcome to our House.
And, welcome home.
Veronica R. Townsend, Esq.
